About Understand Your Economy
Understand Your Economy explains the economy in plain English: prices, interest rates, jobs, government debt and what they mean for your money, in the United States and Canada.
We started on YouTube as Understand Your Economy. This site holds the written guides: clear explanations, charts built from official data, and pages we update when new numbers come out.
How we work
- Every statistic comes from the agency that publishes it, such as the U.S. Treasury, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, Statistics Canada or the Bank of Canada, and links to that source.
- Our charts are drawn from that official data. You are free to reuse them with credit and a link.
- We use AI tools to help research and draft. A person checks every number and every page before it is published. Read our AI use policy and editorial policy.
- We explain how things work. We do not give personal financial advice.
Who we are
Understand Your Economy is an independent publisher. No bank, government agency, political party or advertiser owns, funds or reviews our work. We started because most explanations of the economy are written for experts, and the people most affected by prices, rates and jobs deserve clear answers too.
Who writes the articles
Articles carry the byline "Understand Your Economy", which is our editorial team. We do not invent author names or credentials.
